Packing list


PACKING LIST
for
MALAYSIA WEEK 2010 - PULAU KAPAS

The nature of this site is to conquer and kayak around the entire island. We will be spending the first and last night at Marang Beach. The two nights in-between we will be on Pulau Kapas in the South China Sea with minimal gear. You will need a reasonable sized bag to keep ALL your gear in and a smaller daypack bag to take to Pulau Kapas. No valuables, please! Please adhere strictly to this list!

REMINDER: Medicine to be given to sponsors prior to departure of Malaysia Week!
Toilet Articles:
toothbrush & paste
soap in container or in zip-locked bag
shampoo for two hair wash/showers
brush or comb
wash cloth (inside zip-locked bag)
small hand towel
1 thin bath/shower towel (medium size)
sun lotion (sp 25+ minimum)
insect repellent (we provide Off with DEET)
chap stick / zinc oxide / lip balm
individual tissue packs
______ 1 small pack of baby wipes
______ talcum powder (for removing sand) OPTIONAL ITEMS:
Camera/film/extra batteries
(inexpensive unless prearranged)

Use your small backpack for the bus ride on the way the first day and on the way back the last day. The bus ride can be cold, so bring your cover up (windbreaker or sarong) and make sure you have your lunch, money, hat, journal, pencil, water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellant, book and a card game of some kind that can be played with others on the bus. NO ELECTRONICS.

You will need to use sunscreen and hat for kayaking to Pulau Kapas and upon arrival you will need insect repellant. We go directly to set up our camp as soon as we reach the island.

Clothing:
3 days of underclothes (boys-at least one pair of speedo type underwear)
3 days of t-shirts
2 pairs of fast drying shorts (not too short, girls…board shorts ok)
1 pair of long pants to keep mosquitos off at dusk (light, airy…not too warm)
_______ 1 pair of socks
_______ 1 pair of tennis shoes (closed shoes for the kayak)
2 clothes for sleeping
______ 1 pair of closed toe water shoes (for playing in the surf and kayaking-the rocks and coral can be sharp)
1 pair of flip flops (slip on/off type for camp castaway canteen area)
1 sarong (can be open or sewn-used as changing room, sleeping bag, cover up)
One piece bathing suit or tankini (no bikinis but a tankini is ok-tank top with bikini bottoms or board shorts)
________ swim shirt (this will save you while snorkeling and kayaking…try not to have black or a dark color)

Misc Important Items:

_______ dive skin (recommended)
small day pack (for sunscreen, lip balm & mosquito repellant)
money (not more than RM20) Bring small change for toilets on our stops to and from Pulau Kapas
stationery items (pens, pencils, colored markers)
flashlight (with several extra batteries-we have 2 nights on survivor island!)
bandaids (personal first-aid kit etc.)
hat with visor for sun protection
extra ziplock and plastic bags
1 pillow case
water bottle (half to one liter - 1-2 water bottles)
journal
_______ mess kit (plate, mug, plastic cutlery)
medicine (give any necessary medication to sponsors the day of departure)

PACK IN A REASONABLE SIZED SOFT SIDED BAG WITH A NAME TAG ON IT !
